Prerequisites

Before you start using BlokMCP, make sure you have the following:

Required

1. Storyblok Account & Space

You need an active Storyblok account with at least one space.

• Have a Storyblok account? Great! You're ready to go.
• New to Storyblok? Sign up at storyblok.com

2. Storyblok Management Token

BlokMCP needs a management token to access your Storyblok space. This token is stored securely in your BlokMCP dashboard (encrypted at rest).

How to create a management token:

1. Log in to Storyblok
2. Go to your space settings
3. Navigate to Access Tokens → Management Tokens
4. Click Create Token
5. Give it a name (e.g., "BlokMCP Production")
6. Select Full Access or specific permissions based on what you want Claude to do
7. Copy the token - you'll need it during BlokMCP setup

Security Tip: Create a dedicated token for BlokMCP. This makes it easy to rotate or revoke access if needed.

3. MCP-Compatible AI Assistant

BlokMCP works with any MCP-compatible client. The most common options:

For Non-Technical Users

• Claude Desktop (Recommended for most users)
  • Free desktop app from Anthropic
  • Simple JSON configuration
  • Works on macOS, Windows, and Linux
  • Download: claude.ai/download

For Developers

• Cursor IDE (Recommended for developers)
  • AI-powered code editor with MCP support
  • Great for combining code editing with content management
  • Download: cursor.sh
• Other MCP Clients
  • Any client that supports the Model Context Protocol

Understanding of Your Storyblok Space

You'll get more value from BlokMCP if you're familiar with:

• Your content structure (folders, components)
• Your workflow and approval processes
• Your team's content operations

Don't worry if you're new to Storyblok - Claude can help you explore and understand your space structure.

Claude Pro or Team Subscription (Optional)

While you can use BlokMCP with a free Claude account, a paid subscription provides:

• Higher rate limits for more extensive operations
• Priority access during peak times
• Better performance for complex tasks

Not Required

You do not need:

• Programming knowledge (unless you're doing development work)
• Command line experience
• Access to Storyblok's admin settings (space-level access is sufficient)
• Multiple Storyblok spaces (you can start with just one)
